Enfield’s winning streak in the London League came to end in Hammersmith on Tuesday as they were beaten 9-8 by Otter.
With 13 players making the journey to St Paul’s Girls’ School, Enfield fielded one of their strongest teams of the season, but despite the full quota, the visitors failed to find their rhythm.
Otter started brightly and dominated the opening quarter with a series of fast breaks and sharp shooting causing havoc.
Goals from Rob Lucas and Richard Waller got Enfield off the mark, but they weren’t enough to stop the hosts racing into a 4-2 lead at the end of the first.
In the second, Enfield again struggled to find a way past an inspired home keeper and Otter edged further in front to make it 6-3 at the half.
Enfield’s best form arrived in the third, with Dax Cain firing in from 5m and another goal from Lucas bringing the north Londoners back into the match at 8-7.
But more poor passing and finishing proved costly for Enfield in the fourth.
With the score 9-8 in Otter’s favour, the last play of the game saw Andy Rolle miss a glorious chance to tie the game on man-up.
The loss was Enfield’s first in the London League since May, and the result sees them remain second in the table behind leaders Watford.
