The dream final is on the horizon
Title-holder Ferencvaros (HUN) and Verona (ITA) are to take the last step to set up the ‘dream final’ of the event. At the start of the season these two sides were considered the favourites to go all the way and they delivered so far.
Ferencvaros had some headaches against fellow Magyar side Miskolc in the first leg but with a strong finish they built a 4-goal gap by the end of the encounter (13-9). Since last Saturday they repeated that win in the domestic league (14-10), the title-holder team looks a sure bet for advancing to the final.
Verona (ITA) could have closed down the duel in Marseille already (led 6-11 with 4:46 minutes to go) but the French came back in the last period to keep a slim hope for the return match. Still, the Italians’ away win (9-11) puts them in a fine position to reach their first-ever final at the European stage.
