Enfield had to dig deep as they battled their way to an impressive 13-8 (3-3, 3-2, 3-3, 4-0) victory over Poly 2 at Clissold Leisure Centre on Wednesday.
Rob Lucas led the way for the visitors with a five-goal haul, including two precision penalties, as he put in a man-of-the-match performance against his former team.
Enfield’s Charlie Briers also shone in attack as he fired home four well-worked goals from 2m against some experienced and strong defenders.
Andy Rolle added two goals on the break and he also teed up Alex Waller for a fine finish in the final quarter.
Goal of the night, however, belonged to captain Rob Threadgold, who drove in from the right before sending an exquisite lob over the keeper and into the far left of the goal.
Richard Waller was solid in 2m defence, while tireless work from Adrian Lo, John Jackson, Tony Matthews and Craig Snowdon made sure Enfield went home with the points.
When Poly did manage to breach Enfield’s back line, they found Andy Boorman in inspired form between the posts as he produced a series of top quality saves.
Enfield’s team in full was Andy Boorman, John Jackson, Adrian Lo, Tony Matthews, Craig Snowdon, Alex Waller, Richard Waller, Rob Threadgold, Charlie Briers, Andy Rolle & Rob Lucas.
