The second division of European women’s water polo is ready to fight for one of the six remaining spots for the 33rd LEN European Water Polo Championships Barcelona 2018. With less than five months to go until the start of the competition, which will be held at the historic Bernat Picornell Pool, the first leg of the final qualifier will take place this Saturday, February 17.
Prague, Netanya, Kosice, Hamburg and Novi Sad will host the matches scheduled for this weekend. The sixth, between France and Switzerland, will be played on February 24 in Limoges, coinciding with the men’s qualifier. The same thing will happen on March 3, when both the men’s and women’s teams coincide in the same location, this time in Uster, Switzerland.
The schedule for February 17 is the following:
Czech Republic-Croatia, Prague. 18h.
Israel-Portugal, Netanya. 18h.
Slovakia-Turkey, Kosice. 19:30h.
Germany-Romania, Hamburg. 20:30h.
Serbia-Ukraine, Novi Sad.
The six best women’s squads from the latest European Championships held in Belgrade in 2016 automatically qualified for this year’s final: Hungary, Russia, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy and Spain.
The men’s play-off is scheduled for next week. Eight spots in the Barcelona final are at stake. The battle is on for European glory.
