Enfield Water Polo Club juniors have returned triumphantly from Belgium after winning a prestigious tournament in Sint-Niklaas.
The youngsters got their campaign off to the perfect start by beating Wase 8-4 and Tielt 10-1 on Sunday morning to put Enfield in pole position for the title.
Standing in their way of glory was Leiden, who had beaten Enfield on Saturday in a series of warm-up games, but this time it was the north Londoners who came out on top – storming to a sensational 13-11 victory to ensure the trophy was going to England!
Coach Martin Waller launched himself into the water at the final whistle and there were huge celebrations as Enfield secured the title and were crowned champions.
“What an incredible weekend this has been,” said proud Waller. “All the players and coaches deserve this win and it’s fantastic that all the hard work the team put in at training has paid off.
“It’s been an excellent tournament and everyone has thoroughly enjoyed it.
“We’d like to thank all the organisers for putting on such a great competition and we look forward to building on this success and coming back again next year to defend the title.”
