Verona or Ferencvaros – history or double
With only a single goal having separated the teams in the first leg, tremendous excitements are in sight for the return game of the Euro Cup final, featuring Banco BPM SM Busto (ITA) and Ferencvaros (HUN). The Italians are looking for a historical first win while the Hungarians are set to retain their title.
This is going to be the third encounter of the two sides this season and Ferencvaros won the previous two but both were pretty tight matches. In the qualifications the Hungarians won 11-9 at the Italian’s home in Busto Arsizio back in September and they beat them 9-8 in the first leg of the final in Budapest on Easter Saturday. It was a much narrower win than expected and that sets the stage for a tense but brilliant game on Wednesday evening.
Banco BPM SM Busto seeks a historical first-ever European triumph while Ferencvaros is to become the third team after Brescia (ITA – in 2002-2003) and Savona (ITA – in 2011-2012) to clinch back-to-back titles in the competition’s 25-year history.
Two teams with star-studded line-ups will have this great showdown, outstanding national team players from Hungary and Italy at the respective ends, combined with excellent foreign aces especially from Serbia. In fact, Ferencvaros has three Hungarian and three Serbian Olympic champion players in its squad and looks the favourite, still, the Italians’ efforts in Budapest eliminated the quality-gap and playing at home they can be even more dangerous.
The hosts are preparing an exceptionally spectacular pre-game show to mark the grand occasion, and there will be some brilliant elements to showcase during the game as well. LEN offers live streaming from the match, available on our website.
